Artist's Statement

The story touches me tremendously. The multiple layers of the story and Prince's contradictory characters create tension and conflict.
The prince sacrifices for peace of country and happiness of his elderly father. He avoids conflict and gives up struggle, which gives him a special place in Chinese history. On the other hand, he died because of a women's conspiracy, showing his cowardice and weakness as a loser of palace revolution.

In my paintings, man and woman become iconic.
Woman, seductively charming, represents viciousness. Man is the slave of politics and sexuality, trapped in meaningless spiritual struggle. Each of these five pieces represents a fragment of this intense story.
