Regarded as the Oriental Matisse, Ku ShuLan's fame rose in 1990s for her bold, passionate paper cut. Her expressionist vision and joyful celebration of colours are evidence of how individual creativity of a great artist elevates folk art heritage. Her life tells a story that a sensitive soul uncompromisingly confronts the human sufferings.
  Listed as China's Intangible Cultural Heritage, Ku's works are collected by China National Art Museum & American Visionary Art Museum.
  Ku ShuLan(1920-2004) achievement:
1992 Special award of the Third Folk Art Expo of China.
1993 Unique China Folk Art Granted by Culture Ministry of China.
1995 Solo show in the Academy of Chinese Paining for World Women Conference.
1996 Master of China Folk Art awarded by UNESCO.
